Poem Two

Pounding heart
Active mind
Blood-shot eyes
Tearstained cheeks
Mascara stained pillowcase

She couldn’t sleep
Tossing & turning, wondering why she wasn’t enough
The bed was warm but she felt cold & alone
Her brain asked the questions that her heart
Was afraid of
Was she enough for him?
Did she make a mistake?
Was this what she had to look forward to now?
Speeding through her head
One question at a time
Like an old black & white skit
She couldn’t control them
She tried to sleep them off & just forget

Suddenly
A heavy, warm arm wrapped around her
and held her tight
Lips, pressed against her shoulder
She took a deep breath in
Felt his chest against her back
Her tears stopped
A smile crept on her lips
The coldness was
Overwhelmed by warmth and love

She realized
She was enough
She was loved
& She’s exactly where she should be
Where she should be
